Croquet
The Croquet Club, of 12 members currently, is a thriving section within the Aldermaston Recreational Society.
More members of any age, sex and ability are welcome. A handicap system means that any new player can successfully challenge the old-timers. As you improve, your handicap drops of course.
We have two full size lawns beside the bowling green, at the west end of site, which can be used all year. In the Summer an extra pair of half size lawns are set up to help coaching of beginners.
The Coach is Bob, who can be contacted on 01635 40648. Ring Bob to find out how to get a free introduction to the game. If you are captivated, as we are sure you will be, then join the Club and get some free coaching sessions.
We have a wooden hut besides the lawn, where balls, mallets and chairs (for the quiet joy of watching others mess it up) are available for your use. A stone’s throw away are changing rooms, the Rec. Soc. Bar and essential facilities for making tea and getting rid of it.
The main season is May to September when the evenings are light enough to finish a full length game. The club is planning to hold an internal fun tournament or competition each month.
On Wednesday evenings, matches against others clubs in the Southern Federation are played. Coaching sessions and 'Club Nights' are on Tuesdays. Members can also be seen practising on the occasional sunny lunchtime.
The first year's membership is free, subsequently £25/year with reduced rates for families or juniors. You do need to be a full member of the Recreational Society. So come along and give it a go.
