Boundary Players

The Boundary Players are based at the William Penney Theatre (located within the main Recreational Society building) and aim to produce three plays a season.

People tend to think that they need to want to act in order to join an amateur dramatics company. This is not the case. Whilst actors and actresses are extremely important, a production cannot go ahead without backstage people, set builders or front of house staff.

You can get as involved as you want with plenty of other tasks to choose from if acting is not your preference. For the actors, we try to make sure that you ‘tread the boards’ at least once a season

The Boundary Players are based at the William Penney Theatre (located within the main Recreational Society building) and aim to produce three plays a season.  These normally open in October / November, January / February and April/May.

Our season starts around July / August with the casting of the first production. From then on we rehearse every Tuesday and Thursday evenings in the William Penney Theatre from 7-30pm. Set building sessions normally are held on Wednesday evenings in the Theatre from 7-30pm. This continues until our last play.

During the summer months we try to hold a variety of social events.

To join the Boundary Players you need to be a member of the Recreational Society. However, through the use of a Sectional membership scheme, people can be involved with us for a trial 3 months before committing themselves. The 3 months covers a production from casting to “last night”, so by the end people should know whether the club is for them or not.

People wishing to help Front of House do not need to become members of the Recreational Society, as they are only required a couple of times during the season to help on production nights. If you are interested in this aspect, then please email membership@boundaryplayers.co.uk

We feel extremely lucky to have access to a proper 280 seat theatre, the only one of its kind in the area. We consider ourselves a friendly crowd, we don’t bite and you will never be asked to do anything you don’t want to do.

So why not come along and see for yourself! For more details see our website www.boundaryplayers.co.uk. Feel free to email one of the people named on the website for more information or just come along to the theatre on a Tuesday or Thursday night.
