Nearly 4 months after being forced to close in the midst of the Coronavirus crisis, it’ll be great to be back and to see you all again! We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to go through the government guidance on the hospitality sector to make sure that we can safely welcome you and our staff back to work, the vast majority of which have been furloughed during this period. As we are both a social and sports club, it has been a challenge to try and open together as one with so many different elements to our business but hopefully, with continued compliance of social distancing etc. we will be back to ‘normal’ in the not too distant future.

Below is information from our chairman Andy Stead which outlines how the re-opening will work.

Please ensure that if you/your household are planning to use our facilities you have read this information as it is critical to ensuring the re-opening goes as smoothly as possible and the safety of us all in the process.

If you have any questions about any of this please contact the office on the details below and we’ll endeavour to get back to you as soon as possible. We will keep you updated as to the opening hours for beyond the first week when this is confirmed. Please refer to our Facebook page ‘Aldermaston Recreational Society’ for daily updates.

Monday 13th-Friday 17th July: 5.00-10pm* catering available from 5-9pm

You will appreciate that the current government guidance has changed how we can operate.

We have reconfigured the Main Bar and Function Room to comply with government guidance on social distancing which, of course, has had a significant impact on our capacity.

  • Those planning to visit us must book a table in advance. Table bookings can be made by calling the Rec Soc Office on 0118 9827614 or Bar on 0118 9824544 or email: ruth@recsoc.co.uk.

  • Those booking will be asked to confirm the number of individuals in their party and their Rec Soc Membership number (where available).

  • Entry to the building will be via the front entrance doors (exit will only be via the fire doors at the end of the Function room)

  • Hand Sanitizer is placed around the open areas and also at the front entrance

  • You will be greeted when you arrive, asked to confirm your booking and your table will be pointed out to you

  • If you wish to sit outside and there is a table free you are welcome to

  • There will be a form on your table for you and your party to note down your contact details. This is a government requirement, with details being kept on file for 21 days

  • One person per table can come up to the bar to order drinks and food. Food will delivered to tables by our staff but not drink (trays will be provided)

  • A system to minimise queueing while ordering drinks will be operated at the bar

  • Sections and Hirers are permitted use the grounds for pre-booked training but must comply with the guidelines of their sporting association – noting that some sports are still not permitted to be played

  • All changing rooms remain closed

  • The external disabled toilet by the theatre will be made available for grounds users when the Rec Soc is open

  • Smoking by the entrance doors will not be permitted. There will be a marquee outside the front for people to use

  • All payments will be cashless for the foreseeable future in order to protect our bar staff

  • The toilets by the theatre and main office will be open, as well as the toilets in the function room. These will be single occupancy only – there will be a lock on the inside of the most external door to maintain this

  • People should maintain social distancing with others not in their household or in their bubble at all times

  • The following areas remain closed until further notice. All will continue to be under review as more government guidance is released:

    • Snooker room

    • Pool table bar (one entrance in/out makes it hard for us to maintain social distancing)

    • Skittle Alley

    • Weight Training Room

    • Table Tennis Room

    • Squash Courts

    • Main Gymnasium

Please bear in mind that this is a significant change to how we would normally do business and we ask you to be patient as we return to operations.

Please see attached Risk Assessment

This risk assessment and the controls will be reviewed on a weekly basis to take into account the changing advice of the government. Any changes will be communicated to employees involved via team briefings and weekly updates.
